08/12/2010 - Birmingham, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - American defender Eric Lichaj signed a new three-year contract with Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Lichaj joined Aston Villa in 2007, but has yet to break into the first team. He spent parts of the last two seasons on loan at lower division clubs Lincoln City and Leyton Orient.

The 21-year-old impressed this preseason with Aston Villa and was handed a new contract.

"I'm delighted to be staying at a great club," Lichaj said on Villa's website. "I now have a better opportunity to get into the first team. Hopefully when I start playing here I can get into the USA team. That would be nice.

"When I first came, I found the pace of the way the English players play was a bit different to in the USA. But I have adapted to that now and will hopefully forge a career here for as long as possible."
